2013 Steelers Training Camp
Players will be checking into their rooms at St Vincent College in Latrobe PA. on July 26, the first public practice will take place at 3pm Saturday the 27th. The hitting will begin Monday the 29th as the team will suit up in pads and start competing for positions. There are going to be key positions in need of competent skilled players, the first one to watch for will involve #1draft pick Jarvis Jones and fourth year outside linebacker Jason Worilds. The coaches have been impressed thus far with Jones ability to learn quickly and have a sound understanding of his assignments, much of that can be attributed to Jones playing in a similar style defense at Georgia. The secondary will also have a new look with Cortez Allen penciled in a replacement for former starter Keenan Lewis, who has now signed with the New Orleans Saints. High expectations are also being held for safety Shemarko Thomas, who was a hard hitting stand out player at Syracuse, I fully expect to see him in certain packages this year.
On the offensive side of the ball Todd Haley will find ways to work rookie Le’Von Bell as their featured back, while Big Ben while be finding ways to get the ball to his revamped receiving corp, that will be without stellar tight end Heath Miller. The offensive line will also consist of several battles, most notably the tackle positions where Marcus Gilbert, Mike Adams, and Kevin Bechum will all have a shot at earning a spot. This will certainly be a good year to pack up the kids and head on out to Latrobe PA., the team is looking to rebound from a poor record from 2012 as well as having missed the playoffs the past two years.
